Our Holiday Tree

TFIM-STRIP-50

THE BACKSTORY: Last year we had a small potted tree we decorated and christened the “Holiday Love Tree.” We had a neighbor that had given us some blank wood Christmas ornaments and we decided to give them our own touch. We are not Christian and, with my birthday being on December 24th, I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with Christmas because it usually means folks are not around for a birthday party on the 24th. We all love giving, celebrating, and decorating though, so we got ourselves a tree and put our own touches on it with a holiday craft pizza party at our place. We also had a tradition of getting Chinese food and watching Hogfather and other movies at our place. This year is a little different for us though… That potted tree didn’t survive our two moves since last holiday season and we have been pretty busy with the baby, so we don’t have a Holiday Love Tree. Marco’s mom and sister now live back in Portland and they are Catholic. They really love Christmas and baby Ember, so we’ll be gathered a la casa de Abuelita y Tía Rita for a new holiday tradition. We’re so thankful to have supportive family that lives near us and accepts our unique family as part of theirs, they are so in love with baby Ember, but Abuela and Tía Rita are on board with raising Ember with gender autonomy and have embraced Matt and I as Marco’s partners with such love. <3

For fun, here’s some photos of the Goth Angel and some other ornaments on our Holiday Love Tree…

This was a white, stuffed heart that Marco painted into a lovely piece of pizza on a heart.

The goth angel Matt painted! It was originally a blank, wood angel. Also a paper flower, red fabric, a paper snowflake, and a paper skull covered in glitter. We also made a gayngel out of another blank wooden angel, but I could’t find a photo of it!

Matt painted this stuffed heart to be similar to Roxy's star...
