Last Names

THE BACKSTORY: I dig my last name and the it’s historical connections, so I am glad Matt and Marco do too, but it also has felt important to me to have the baby’s name tie to both of them and their identities. A hyphenated, three-part last name seems a bit much, so we think we may give the baby two middle names that tie them to Matt and Marco… Marco has a complicated relationship with his last name, however, not only is it a product of colonialism, he also doesn’t like his father. So we’ve been doing a lot of thinking about how to work through that. Another idea is using his mother’s last name at least, but we’ll see…

Hi there, a friend just sent me your comic, adn I just started reading today. So, my partners and I are expecting a baby, and I’m the birthing parent. We have had nearly the same discussion. At first we were thinking of hyphenating our three names, but finally settled on changing our names to be the same. We’re hoping to find a way clear to have all of us on the birth certificate, too. 🙂 I am so connecting with your comics, this is wonderful.
