NON MONOGAMOUSLY

I’ve Heard of That Before…

TFIM-2014-STRIP-1

THE BACKSTORY: Welcome to our new comic project, The Feeling Is Multiplied! A while back, Marco was in a bike accident and I (Blue) took him to the hospital because he was very bloody and in pain. We had a long and cruddy wait in the emergency room before he was even called for patient intake processing. We were pleasantly surprised by this nurse’s recognition of non monogamous relationships (though it was probably from the painfully problematic show Polyamory: Married & Dating). This just felt like the right strip to kick off The Feeling Is Multiplied, stay tuned for the second, coming next Tuesday. We plan to deliver you a fresh strip by us every Tuesday here on The Feeling Is Multiplied, with Sharing Is Caring posts every Thursday (where we will answer letters, respond to pleas for advice, share resources, or post reviews to stuff that we love). Thanks for reading!

Why was “Married & Dating” a “painfully problematic show”? I get what they’re trying to do: sell people on the idea of polyamory on a network that frequently has explicit scenes.

Well, Jared, I think you already touched on why it was problematic to me with what you’ve said in your initial comment. I can expand to say that I felt it was a problematic representation of polyamory because it definitely was not as rooted in reality as it was rooted in presenting a narrow selection of folks (with not the greatest boundaries /respect for each other) for television drama. We actually had a viewing party of the first season with several friends and most folks in the room were groaning and frustrated watching it. I suggest you checking it out for yourself, perhaps with some people who are practicing non monogamy / polyamory and writing your review.

I’ve watched the first season when it first came out. For reality TV, I wasn’t expecting much and certainly didn’t think it represented polyamory as a whole.

Look forward to more posts on this blog 🙂
